about1.jpgThe Faculty of Wood Engineering and Creative Industries (FWECI for short) has a special place within Hungarian higher education. In addition to the nationally unique wood-related higher education that is offered by FWECI and our other technical programs, the applied arts education started in the 1990’s, and the even newer IT training are also important. These three areas – technical sciences, information technology and arts – do not merely co-exist, but complement each other to allow the training of versatile and competent professionals.

Wood Sciences are very impotant at FWECI. Our education and research experience of over 50 years guarantees that our students get the best and highest quality training in this field. Throughout the years, our education has been continually updated and adapted to the needs of the industry and to the new challenges, to provide state-of-the-art knowledge to our students.

In addition to wood, all other programs provide excellent training as well. The reputation of our arts education attracts students from all around the country, so they can participate in the high quality training in Sopron. Our information technology program generates mostly regional interest, but our graduates have their pick of well-paid jobs in Hungary or abroad.

In addition to education, FWECI is the only wood research institution in Hungary. The many research assignments from the Hungarian wood industries demonstrate the reputation of our research and innovation. We have also received many Hungarian and international research grants. Research in light industry, information technology and arts has an increasing role. These projects are often related to wood.

about2.jpgOur new state-of-the art research facilty, the Natural Resources Research Centre includes some 80 laboratories covering a wide range of research topics from wood and paper manufacturing through energetics, robotics, polymer technology, all the way to nanotechnology, and much more. In addition to our pioneering research and innovation, our accredited laboratories offer a range of standardised testing services.

To learn more about the activities of FWECI, feel free to browse the pages on our International website, where each area of our education, research and service, our facilities and the unique student traditions are described in detail.
