About the Doctoral School

The István Széchenyi Economics and Management Doctoral School at the University of Sopron is dedicated to high-level doctoral education in the field of economics and management sciences. Established as part of the Alexandre Lámfalussy Faculty of Economics, the doctoral school provides structured and individual research opportunities for students aiming for academic, research, or professional excellence.

Accredited to confer doctoral degrees since 1993, the school has developed a reputation for excellence in doctoral education. Courses are available in English, German, and Hungarian, and international students are welcomed each year. Required Documents:
Applicants must submit the following documents via the online application system. If the documents are not in English or German, a certified translation must be attached.

  • Master’s (MA/MSc) diploma in English or German.

  • Copy of passport.

  • English language proficiency certificate (B2 level or higher, such as TOEFL, IELTS, Cambridge English Qualifications (FCE or higher), Oxford Test of English (OTE) or other internationally recognized English tests) OR a Medium of Instruction Certificate (for those who completed their MSc in English). Native English speakers are exempt.

  • Proof of application fee payment (bank transfer receipt).

  • Research plan and proposal.

  • Documented scientific and publishing activity.

  • Recommendation letters, motivation letter, and CV.

Admission Requirements:

About the Doctoral School

The József Cziráki Doctoral School of Wood Sciences and Technologies was established in the early 1990s and has been fully accredited since 2002. Over this period, 106 students have successfully completed their studies. The school provides a strong theoretical foundation, research methodology training, and scientific expertise. Students conduct individual research under the guidance of top experts in wood science and related fields in Hungary.

Research projects cover a wide range of topics, including wood science, wood technology, pulp and fiber technology, wood construction, nanotechnology, architecture, light industry, and wood-related IT and marketing research. These research topics are often linked to industrial innovation projects, ensuring that graduates gain both theoretical knowledge and practical scientific expertise.

About Roth Gyula Doctoral School

Established in 1993, the Roth Gyula Doctoral School of Forestry and Wildlife Management Sciences is the only PhD school in Hungary dedicated exclusively to forestry, wildlife management, and conservation sciences. Accredited by the Hungarian Accreditation Committee, the school brings together experts from the Faculty of Forestry, the Forest Research Institute (ERTI), and other research institutions.

Doctoral students benefit from state-of-the-art research laboratories, field stations, and international collaborations, ensuring they gain advanced knowledge and skills applicable to academic, government, and industry careers in environmental sciences.
